Det känns som om det var igår som Rockstar Games släppte sitt kritikerrosade Red Dead Redemption 2 och släppte oss in i en enorm värld av banditer och skottlossningar. Det kan väl inte ha varit så länge innan då man släppte loss det vansinnigt framgångsrika Grand Theft Auto 5?
Jo, det kan det faktiskt mycket väl. GTA 5 må sedan dess ha släppts på nytt för att förlänga sin livslängd, men det kom ursprungligen ut 2013. Mycket har förändrats sedan dess, och med en ny generation konsoler i våra händer, bestående av PS5 och Xbox Series X och S, vet vi nu med säkerhet att ytterligare ett spel i Rockstars mest kända franchise är på väg.

Utgivningsdatum för GTA 6
När vi börjar med möjliga releasedatum är det värt att ge dig lite bakgrundsinformation. Medan GTA 5 släpptes 2013 kunde Rockstar inte omedelbart rikta sin fulla uppmärksamhet mot att utveckla en uppföljare. De började tydligen arbeta på GTA 6 under 2014, men hade under tiden Red Dead Redemption 2 att göra, för att inte tala om PC-, PS4- och Xbox One-versionerna av GTA 5 och PC- och Google Stadia-versionerna av Red Dead Redemption 2.
Alla dessa kräver arbete men är nu ur vägen, och Rockstar har äntligen brutit upp och meddelat att de faktiskt arbetar på GTA 6, och att även om de inte har något att dela med sig av just nu kommer fler nyheter att komma i sinom tid.
Det är alltså skönt att veta vad vi alla misstänkte - det kommer att komma ett sjätte GTA-spel, och det är redan under full utveckling. Hoppas bara inte för mycket på att det kommer att dyka upp snart. I slutet av maj 2022 sa den franske journalisten Chris Klippel att Rockstar hade ett avslöjande för ett mystiskt projekt planerat inom kort, så det är möjligt att detta pekar på att GTA 6 kommer att få en trailer någon gång.
I början av juli 2022 nämnde en annan uppdatering av Rockstars community att utvecklaren är medveten om "behovet av att överträffa spelarnas förväntningar och för att nästa del ska bli det bästa det kan bli", så vi är intresserade av att se hur ambitiöst spelet är.
GTA 6 läcka
I september 2022 fick vi en av de största spelleckorna på senare tid när en användare laddade upp bokstavligen massor av bilder av ett Grand Theft Auto 6 som uppenbarligen håller på att utvecklas till GTAForums, som sedan dess har rensat bort inläggen.
Efter en kort tid bekräftade ROckstar att läckan var äkta, medan dess utgivare Take-Two började utfärda upphovsrättsliga strejker för att ta bort innehållet från nätet. Hackaren i fråga, som försökte sälja ytterligare information till högstbjudande, uppges nu utredas av FBI.
Läckan visade upp tidiga spelbilder som bekräftade olika detaljer som redan ryktats, inklusive att minst en huvudperson är en kvinna, och som innehöll en hel del ganska detaljerad dialog.
Den visade också vad som ganska tydligt är Vice City, en av de ryktbara miljöerna för spelet.
Plattformar för GTA 6
Den andra viktiga detaljen i den första stora läckan om GTA 6 gällde förmodligen de plattformar som spelet troligen kommer att släppas på. GTA 5 kom ut i slutet av en konsolgeneration och släpptes till PS3 och Xbox 360 för att sedan släppas på nytt med bättre prestanda och grafik till nästa uppsättning konsoler.
Tydligen kommer det mönstret inte att upprepas med GTA 6. Läckan tyder på att spelet kommer att vara exklusivt för Playstation 5 och Microsofts Xbox Series X och S.
Med tanke på att dessa konsoler kommer att ha funnits ute i minst ett par år vid lanseringen är det helt trovärdigt.
Med tanke på att Red Dead Redemption 2 tog mycket mindre tid på sig att komma till PC-spelare än vad GTA 5 gjorde för flera år sedan, skulle det dock vara något förvånande om GTA 6 inte också tar sig till PC inom ett år efter lanseringen.
GTA 6 gameplay
Att vänta på detaljer om ett nytt GTA-spel innebär vanligtvis ett stort område för spekulationer - var kommer det att utspela sig? Även om karaktärer och handlingslinjer är lika föremål för intressanta detaljer är det något med GTA:s miljö som känns som det mest centrala valet som Rockstar måste göra. Vare sig det är Liberty City, Los Santos eller någon annan storstad, så är den lekplats där spelarna kommer att göra uppror ett stort frågetecken som hänger över spelet.
Just nu är det här som spekulationerna fokuserar, med GTA Online-spelare som vid ett tillfälle blev övertygade om att GTA 6 kommer att utspela sig i Vice City, GTA 3:s omtyckta, neonblåsta alternativa version av Miami. Resonemanget bakom detta? GTA Onlines racing DLC, Open Wheels, har en racerbana som ser misstänkt ut som konturerna av en karta som skulle inkludera Miami och en del av Mexiko. Konturerna ser ganska tydliga ut, som du kan se på bilden nedan, men Rockstar håller uppenbarligen sitt eget råd i det här skedet.
Den här idén fick lite mer detaljer genom en påstådd läcka, som påstås ha kommit via vännen till en missnöjd före detta Rockstar-anställd. Om man ska tro informationen kommer spelet att utspela sig i Florida och ha en karta som är större än GTA 5 och Red Dead Redemption 2 tillsammans och som täcker tre städer inklusive Vice City. Spelarna skulle tydligen kunna styra fyra olika huvudpersoner, vilket är en utvidgning av GTA 5:s tre huvudpersoner.
En annan kartläcka tycks visa mer av hela kartan, tillsammans med en sektion som fans spekulerar i att den kan vara baserad på Kennedy Space Centre, baserat på dess layout. Som vanligt finns det dock inte mycket som bekräftar detta som riktig information.
Mer information kommer från en poster på Reddit som har sammanställt olika läckta bilder för att skapa ett koncept av hur kartan kan se ut. Den är expansiv och innehåller ett enormt hav - ett så tomt område att vi är ganska skeptiska till att det kommer att sluta med att vara verkligt, såvida inte Rockstar tar serien i en helt ny, nautisk riktning.

Det har också föreslagits på andra håll att Liberty City (från GTA III), San Andreas (från GTA: San Andreas, förstås) och Mellanvästern skulle kunna vara med, eller kanske till och med alla dessa platser i olika delar. Oavsett vilket, förvänta dig att spelet kommer att tänja på gränserna för vad den nya hårdvaran från Sony och Microsoft är kapabel till. Det finns ingen garanti för att spelvärlden kommer att vara större och mer detaljerad än kartan från GTA 5, men det är i alla fall så det verkar vara trenden.
I en stor Bloomberg-rapport i juli 2022 fick vi information om att spelet faktiskt utspelar sig i Rockstars version av Miami, ett enklare svar än all spåning ovan. Detta stöddes också av läckan från september 2022.
Samtidigt har rykten också cirkulerat om att spelets karaktärslista kommer att innehålla en kvinnlig spelbar karaktär för första gången i serien, något som borde ha skett för länge sedan i våra ögon. Informationen kommer från Tom Henderson, en mångårig läckare som har gjort korrekta påståenden tidigare.
Den detaljen bekräftades av Jason Schreier i samma Bloomberg-rapport i juli 2022, en lång tid senare, tillsammans med informationen att den kvinnliga huvudpersonen kommer att vara latina, den ena halvan av ett par inspirerat av Bonnie och Clyde. Återigen verkar bevis från läckan från september 2022 bekräfta detta.
Vi kan förvänta oss att spelet kommer att tänja på de tekniska gränserna också, och det kommer tydligen att hålla sig till den mer fotorealistiska grafiken från GTA 5 snarare än att satsa på något mer stiliserat, enligt ett rykten nyligen.
Historien om GTA 6
Huvudhistorien i varje GTA-spel hittills har som regel handlat om kriminalitet, men den exakta smaken kan alltid ändras. En viktig information när det gäller GTA 6:s berättelse är att Rockstars medgrundare Dan Houser lämnade studion i mars 2020.
Det innebär att en av studions viktigaste smakdomare och författare har lämnat oss, någon som tillsammans med sin bror Sam har format franchisens ton från allra första början.
Med tanke på den troliga tidpunkten för spelet finns det å ena sidan en god chans att Dan Houser har kunnat påverka manuskriptet och berättelsen innan han lämnade oss. Å andra sidan, om han var på väg bort är det mycket möjligt att han inte var lika involverad. Det innebär att vi kan få ett röstbyte i GTA 6, något som antyddes av rapporter om att berättelsen startades om efter Housers avgång, som dök upp i november 2021.
Exakt hur det skulle manifestera sig är svårt att gissa, men det är en intressant utveckling för Rockstar, det är säkert. Ett annat rykten nyligen startades av ett gammalt patent som Rockstar lämnade in 2017:
Det låter verkligen trovärdigt att Rockstar skulle kunna tänka sig att berätta en historia som involverar gentrifiering och kapitalismens krypande - en fruktbar jordmån för en ganska lätt satir, vågar vi säga det? En föränderlig stad som reagerar på spelarens handlingar i berättelsen är dock en ganska övertygande idé.
En liten detalj om spelets historia som kommer upp till ytan har att göra med dess tidsmässiga placering. Eftersom folk spekulerar i att det kan komma att återvända till Vice City har det funnits frågor om huruvida spelet kommer att utspela sig på 1980-talet igen. Enligt den produktiva läckaren Tom Henderson kommer det dock att vara en modern titel som GTA 5.
Henderson har fått rätt ett flertal gånger tidigare, så det här är verkligen en intressant utveckling.
På senare tid har vi hört från en läckare att spelet kan innehålla GTA 4:s Nico Bellic, som får referenser i GTA 5 men som faktiskt inte har dykt upp igen sedan hans expansioner avslutades. Som med många GTA-läckor kan det bara vara för GTA Online vid någon tidpunkt, men det är en spännande potentiell koppling mellan utgåvorna i serien.
Så för tillfället verkar det som att du kan förvänta dig en berättelse med dubbla huvudpersoner som utspelar sig i Miami, och Jason Schreiers stora rapport i juli 2022 indikerade också att spelet kommer att gå lite lättare på skämt än tidigare titlar, särskilt när det gäller att slå ner.
Det innebär förhoppningsvis färre skämt på bekostnad av minoriteter och de rättslösa, och fler slag uppåt mot de förtryckssystem som de utsätts för.
